Classic New York Reuben Sandwich Recipe with Korean Chilli Pickle Mayo
The Reuben Sandwich is a classic New York deli favourite, traditionally made with rye bread, layers of pastrami, tangy sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese, and pickles. It’s famously dressed with Russian sauce, a savory blend of mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, gherkin relish, and Tabasco, creating a pleasing combination of flavors that make this sandwich unforgettable.
The Flaevor Twist: Spicy Reuben Sandwich
For those looking to try something new with a spicy kick, the Spicy Reuben Sandwich brings an exciting twist with an Asian influence. This version uses Korean gochujang chili paste mixed with pickles and mayonnaise to create a bold, tongue-tingling sauce that complements the traditional Reuben ingredients. The gochujang adds a layer of heat and depth, making this sandwich an adventurous choice for spice lovers.
The Bread: Sourdough Upgrade
In this version, sourdough bread replaces the traditional rye, adding a delightful crunch and chewy texture that enhances the overall experience. If sourdough is unavailable, rye or crusty white bread are excellent alternatives.
